🔮 The Wheel of Fortune in Tarot
Traditionally the Wheel of Fortune is a tarot card about luck and fortune (depending on which way you pull it 😜). Some people translate this card as ‘the luck of the draw’ or as a toss-up. Others read it as an indication of what is to come.
Personally, I read the wheel of fortune as a confirmation that your path has been set and that you are wholeheartedly on it. You are so much on your path that you can’t get actually get off of it. You’re going where you are going, and it is inevitable that you get there. And not only is getting there inevitable, but the journey required, the lessons required, the experiences necessary for you to arrive cannot be skipped over.
So if you’ve pulled The Wheel of Fortune: buckle up, baby!
The wheel of fortune is a reminder that there is no short cut to your destiny, or to the life of your dreams.
And in this, you have a choice—
Like riding on a wheel itself, you can position yourself on the outer edge. Here you will feel every single bump in the road, every turn, every wet spot, the mud and muck when it is there, every stop and every bit of smooth sailing, when the sailing is smooth.
Your perspective at the outer edge will be limited to only what is immediately in front of you and your ability to respond may be and feel more reactive. Rather than seeing the bump ahead of time, you’ll be feeling it like dropping into a huge and dark canyon, through the bottom back up to the top.
Think massive highs and lows, and certainty followed by uncertainty followed by a change of heart, followed back a coming back, followed by re-emerging certainty, forgetting that you are on the path and remembering again (or not even being sure that you are on any path at all, because again, you are on the edge, baby!).
OR, you can position yourself at the wheel’s center.
At the center of the wheel, you are still traveling the same path, but the experience (the feeling in the journey) is less dramatic and variable. Your view is expanded and you can see more of what’s coming. You can respond rather than react. You know when to buckle up and you know when the ride will be smooth.
The center is centered! It’s more stable, consistent, grounded, and the forward momentum can be sensed. But it might feel slower. Occasionally it may feel like you are going nowhere (occasionally it may feel like you are going everywhere, too fast!).
The quality and experience of the wheel is different, depending on where you sit. There are pros and cons to each position. And there are moments in our journey where we have a preference for the adventurous, stomach-churning outer edge or the calm, meditative middle.
Regardless of what we choose or where we are going, the Wheel of Fortune is here to remind us that we always have a choice, that we are always on our right path, and that where we desire to be is inevitable.
