When you feel the urge to hermit or burn it all down and start fresh, read this.

I woke up at 3:50am to the sound of the waves breaking outside my window and I knew I was home. Feeling fully rested, I got out of bed around 4:30am.

I took my dog outside.
I made coffee.
I stared at a blank screen on my computer.
I checked my email, paid some bills, responded to a few messages.

I felt the in-between of forgetting who I am and what I am here to do and why this work is so important.

You see, I've been marinating in a new version of me for a while now – not quite sure who it is that I am becoming, knowing that a part of me has been dying so that another part of me can be reborn.

I spent two weeks in the Maldives and I glimpsed that new version of me and coming back home amplified the space in-between.

I don't think we talk about this enough – the transitioning of ourselves, the constant change and evolution of who we are and how we see the world and what it means about our work + how we show up.

It can be debilitating to forget, to be in the in-between, to feel your growth and change, to experience the life-death-life cycles within you and to continue to show up, to put yourself into the world, unknowing of who it is that you are presenting, unknowing of who it is that you are becoming.

Who you are influences everything that you create. So when you feel unclear about yourself, it can feel like a lot of effort to show up. It can feel easier to wait, until you know, until you're clear, until you are sure.

Yet, here's the thing: we can never be sure, because we are never not changing and growing.

Don't wait until you know. Because by the time you build something based on what you know, you will have grown enough to dismantle your work completely and if you are not steady in the constantly changing parts of yourself, you will (burn it all down and start again every other Tuesday, that is).

The key to taking action isn't in the knowing. The key to showing up in the world isn't in how sure you are of who you are. They key to your success in business, in work, in life, in allowing yourself to be visible.. isn't in any sort of certainty or confidence or direction or strategy. It's also not in the upgrade.

The key is being in the discomfort of not knowing, and showing up for your work anyways.

It's in the refinement that happens in the day-to-day, not in the rebuild.

Save this page and read it the next time you feel like burning it all down and starting fresh.

Sometimes you do not need to know who you are or what you are here to do or why it matters in order to step forward in your fullest expression. Sometimes all you need to do is step forward, regardless.

Trust me, I've been here 1001 times by now 😜. I've learned that being in the work is what matters – that making a plan is worlds easier than following one, and that abandoning ship to start again only slows you down.

Join me in 👁VISIBILITY to keep yourself on track, for the day-to-day refinement, in the forgetting & the remembering and the showing up anyways.

Because it's staying in your work, not rebuilding or redefining it, that gets you where you want to go and 👁VISIBILITY will give you the support you need to keep showing up again & again.

Delivered on November 14, 2023 to the TCP Mailing List. Join here.
