✨ authenticity in life, work, and while looking for work ✨

Dear friend,

Have you ever met someone who is so fully and completely themselves? Like so unabashedly honest, with no hidden agendas, not hiding or masking, but like genuinely trying to show up authentically, and encouraging you to do the same?

If you have, keep them close. I feel like they’re a rare breed.

I spoke with Ryen Macababbad the other day and was so in awe of her candor. She is definitely one of these people. Her ability to openly discuss..well, pretty much everything is incredibly inspiring, and the safety and support that she provides others is, unfortunately, quite uncommon.

As a former leader at Microsoft as well as a US Army veteran with 15 years of experience in technology and leadership, we talked about a lot. We pulled back the curtain on leadership and dug into why, even if you aren’t a manager or in a position of authority, you can still absolutely lead. We talked about the power of a strong community, and how your network can and will be there for you when you’re trying to make it to your next thing.

And as a continuation of our layoffs series, we discussed the difficulties and struggles of navigating layoffs and terminations, and how sometimes our authentic selves may not always be appreciated or supported in certain spaces. But that showing up as our true, authentic selves will always get us where we need to be. As Ryen so beautifully put it:

“Your imperfection is perfection. …if people can't accept you for who you are, then they don't deserve who you are.”
